When I got on the bus this morning—too early for my taste, although at least it's not before dawn since we Fell Back—I sat down in the only open seat and saw the following on the back of the seat in front of me. (Forgive the poor picture quality, my cell phone doesn't do well in low light.)
I know the feeling.
It's the Japanese word nemui, which means 'sleepy', spelled out phonetically in hiragana characters. It's more commonly written using a kanji character, like this: 眠い. Why a Japanese word should be written on the back of an American bus seat is an interesting question. Smart money's on a bored American college student, which would explain why it was written using the simpler characters.
I need sleep. TAing on top of a full course load seemed like a good idea when I signed up, but I've come to suspect that I may have been mistaken. After too many days with only three hours of sleep, everything starts to get a little...fuzzy.
